Arlen D. Petersen, 62, Kearney, died Friday, June 16, 2017 at his home due to complications from A.L.S. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney with Pastor Melody Adams officiating. Burial will be at the Kearney Cemetery. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Arlen was born August 16, 1954 in Alma, Nebraska to Lyle and Isabelle (Boston) Petersen. The family moved to Kearney where he grew up and graduated from Kearney High School in 1972. Arlen earned a degree from Central Community College in Tool and Die. After college Arlen moved to Henderson, Nebraska and worked for Epkro Plastics. Arlen married Kelli Jones on August 19, 1978 in Kearney. In 1979 they moved back to Kearney where he began working for Baldwin Filters for the next 37 years. Arlen started his career in the tool room where he worked his way up to become the Tool Room Manager and then up to the Tooling Machine Engineering Manager. During his tenure, Arlen earned the CLARCOR Citation award. He was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He enjoyed a variety of sports including bowling, baseball, hunting and fishing, Husker football and basketball, and playing cards. As a member of Buffalo Ridge Golf Course, Arlen enjoyed golf, golf, and more golf. He was proud to get his hole in one on #2 at Buffalo Ridge. Arlen also received his name on the Buffalo Ridge hall of fame. He also loved and cherished spending time with his granddaughter Kaylee.

Arlen is survived by his wife, Kelli Petersen of Kearney; daughter, Amanda Bowman and her husband Mike of Kearney; granddaughter Kaylee Bowman of Kearney; brothers, Art Petersen and his wife Edna of Axtell, and Alan Petersen of Kearney and a host of Aunts, uncles, nephews & cousins.

Arlen was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother Cary Petersen.
