Mary is the eighth and last child born to Simeon McIntier and Isabella Nicol. All of her seven older siblings had been born in Hammond, New York. Her parents met the Mormon missionaries in 1838 in New York and had converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were baptized in April 1838. Sometime after 1839 and before 1841 the family moved to Nauvoo, Illinois. Mary was born and died while they were there.
