AUDREY DEJONG BASS TODD, 92, died on August 16, 2014 in Lexington, Virginia. Born on April 29, 1922 in Nyack, New York, Audrey attended the New York City schools and Cornell, Columbia, and George Washington universities. In 1945 she moved to Cleveland, Ohio with her husband Nathan W. Bass, an executive at the Brush Beryllium Company, later Brush Wellman Inc.
A lifelong member of the Society of Friends, Audrey was active in educational causes. She worked as Adult Education Director at the Girl Scouts and Public Education Director at the American Cancer Society.
After Nathan's death, she married Arthur W. Todd, a retired executive at Lincoln Electric. After the death of her second husband, Audrey moved to Lexington, Virginia, where she enjoyed the companionship of former VMI engineering professor Samuel W. Dobyns.
Audrey was an engaged citizen, doting grandparent, and thoughtful friend. She is survived by her half-brother and -sister, George DeJong and Kate Geller; her children, Andrew, Barbara, and Thomas Bass; her daughters-in-law Sharon Stieber and Roberta Krueger; her stepchildren, James, Robert, and Ann Todd and Louise Todd-Stoll; and her four grandchildren, Jonathan Bass and Maude, Tristan, and Julian Bass-Krueger. A private ceremony will be held in Ithaca, New York. Donations in Audrey's memory can be made to the American Friends Service Committee, 1501 Cherry Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102.
