Born to William and Marietta Phillips probably in Overton Co, Tenn in 1833, Rachel Ann's family came to Newton Co sometime before 1840. She was the 3rd child of 7 who survived. There is no record of her marriage to Pleasant B. Bynum/Binam which was about 1851. She joined the Liberty First Baptist Church in Newton Co in 1857. Rachel lived in Newton County as a farmer for virtually her entire life. She and Pleasant had 4 known children: James Monroe (1851-1941), Nancy Jane Baughman (1854- bef 1882), Margaret E. Crouch (1857- bef 1910), Isaac R. (1860- bef 1893), and Jasper B. (1862-1953). The last record of her was an application for Confederate War Survivors Benefits from the state of Arkansas in 1903 where she stated her residence as Noah, AR. She had been previously lving with her grandson Mack Baughman. She is likely buried in Liberty Cemetery but there is no marker.
