Ever so quietly and softly, Alberta (Bert) Wurth, 98 years old, went home on Friday, June 9, 2017 just as she had led her life so quietly and softly.
Bert was a member of St. John Catholic Church. She retired from Lourdes Hospital in 1982 as night Supervisor for Housekeeping. Epitomizing down home southern cooking with a pinch of this and a dab of that, Bert turned everyday fare into a feast for her friends and family. Many tired and sweaty tomato pickers, tobacco cutters and hay haulers dined In her kitchen, all were welcome. Her signature dish of fried chicken routinely went to help comfort those who were grieving the lost of their loved ones. Delighting in God's creation, Bert spent many joyful hours tending her flower gardens coaxing even the most reluctant plants to burst forth and bloom in her gardens. She loved them all, big and bold or small and dainty, each had a place in her eyes. Bert now flowers in God's garden. The family would like to thank all the staff on Wing 6 at Parkview Nursing Home and Hospice for the kind care and love given to our Mom and Nan. A special thanks to Annella Waldridge for her kindness and friendship to Mom over the years.
Bert is survived by her son Steve Wurth of Paducah, Jim (Rebecca) Wurth of Boaz and Lisa (David) Grief of Paducah, 5 grandchildren, Christopher Grief, Josh (Brittany) Grief, Brooke Grief, of Paducah, Sirena Wurth of New Orleans and Rachel Wurth of Boaz, KY One great grandchild, Kasen Grief and several nieces and nephews.
One sister-in-law, Wanda Gunn of South Lyon, MI.
Bert was the oldest child of Festus and Vern Dickerson Gunn. All her brothers J.C., Gene and Lewis and sister's Floella Dunn, Iva Nell Yates and Linda Sue Lyles preceded her in death. Chris, her husband for 62 years died in 2009.
