Bessie Bius, the oldest child of John F Bius and Julia Caldwell Bius; married first to Edward Nelson Miller, a contract painter and cabinet maker. After the death of her husband Edward, Bessie and her two young daughters moved to the family home on the Bius Plantation. Bessie helped with the house work and kept the books for her father. In additional to playing the piano and organ for the Prospect Methodist Church, Bessie also had a beautiful singing voice.
