According to Shafer Family Bible is poss. Mrs. Voncille Simpson, Tulia, Texas: "Elder Barton Shafer was born March the 4th, 1895 - Eldar Barton Shafer died August 4th, 1917". Elder/Edgar is the 8th of 15 children born to Caleb Jones Shafer and Eppy Frances [Wimberly] Shafer. He was born in Texas, probably Williamson County. He was killed in a silo accident in California when a scaffold he was working from collasped (age 22 years). Elder never married.
