Herbert Lucious Shafer (son of Caleb Jones Shafer and Eppy Frances Wimberly Shafer) married Mrs. Nora (Lankford) Gould Nov. 20, 1914 in Amarillo, Potter County, Texas. Herbert, Nora and her son, Cecil Gould came to Swisher County in 1916. They bought a farm 5 miles east of Tulia in the Elkins Community, owned and operated a cafe in Tulia for a few years.
