Gerald Friedrich Hartmann, 83, of Seguin, went home to be with the Lord Monday, June 5, 2017 in San Antonio. Gerald was born February 9, 1934 in Guadalupe County TX to Fritz Thomas and Helena Schievelbein Hartmann. Gerald spent a successful career in Credit Management where he earned the designation as a Certified Credit Executive. He enjoyed serving on the board for the National Association of Credit Management (NACM). He started working at Friedrich Refrigeration and ended his career at Structural Metals Inc (SMI).
Gerald loved being outside and spent happy hours feeding his birds, sitting with his dogs and taking care of his goats and donkeys. He always said he had a sanctuary and took care of all living creatures that came his way.
He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of over 26 years, Marilyn. He was a loving father to his three children, Jeffrey Thomas, wife Gabriela of New Berlin, Gregory Charles of New Braunfels and Sharon Annette Hartmann of San Antonio. Papoo adored his grandchildren, Jeremy Austin, Jacey Autumn, and Jordan Thomas Hartmann. He has been blessed with a large family with many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends all who filled his life with joy. His Kirby's club group were precious to him.
Gerald loved the Lord and was baptized in 1934, confirmed April 10, 1949 at Christ Lutheran Church, Elm Creek where he has served faithfully throughout his life on church council and various committees.
He was an active member of the Seguin Chamber Ambassadors, New Berlin Community Club, the Guadalupe County Historical Commission, the Seguin Heritage Museum, the Guadalupe County Agricultural Committee and supported the New Berlin Volunteer Fire Department where he served many years as a dedicated potato cooker for the festival.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rose Imken, Ruby Strey (his "second Mama"), Marjorie Barth and Mabel Krueger; brothers, George, Alvin, Alton and Gilbert Hartmann.
The family sends sincere thanks for the loving care given by so many during his illness and recovery, to the caring staff of Methodist Hospital, to the team of doctors and especially to Dr Trakhtenbroit who gave us many more years together through his expert and loving care.
While he leaves a great hole in our lives with his passing, we rejoice in knowing he is now home with our Lord and having a grand reunion and will be reunited with us on that blessed day to come.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 9, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary in Seguin TX. Funeral services will be on Saturday June 10, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Elm Creek with Rev David Collins officiating. Interment with military honor will follow in Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery.
