Cecil William Carel, 94, formerly of Okarche, passed away peacefully on June 4, 201, in Keller, Texas. Cecil was born Aug. 9, 1922, to William and Catherine (Hentges) Carel. He was the fifth of eight boys. Cecil attended Union City High School. After high school Cecil worked briefly on the family farm until his enlistment in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was stationed in Monroe, La., during much of his enlistment.

After World War II ended, Cecil began his career at the Federal Correctional Institution in El Reno. During the Korean Conflict, Cecil re-enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Fort Worth, Texas. Cecil returned to the FCI El Reno where he spent a long career managing various aspects of the institutions farming operations until his retirement in 1977.

In his early years he was known for his athleticism, especially in boxing and baseball, and loved to fly airplanes. In his later years he was known as a farmer and wellspring of wisdom and guidance.

Cecil married Teresa Dolly Hamby on May 26, 1956, in Oklahoma City. In September 1962, they purchased a farm two miles west of Concho where they lived for 50 years and raised their three children. Cecil was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Cecil was proud of his family. He is survived by his son, Kevin and wife, Donice of Keller, Texas; daughter-in-law, Sherry Carel of El Reno and son-in-law Jeff Koos of Okarche; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa; son, Michael Carel; and daughter; Darlene (Carel) Koos.

A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 9 in the Benson Memorial Chapel with Deacon Lloyd Menz officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10 at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Mark Mason officiating. Burial will be in the El Reno Cemetery under direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Cecil was loving and generous and will be missed by everyone who encountered his friendly, witty personality.
