He was a lineal descendant of Thomas Notley, a colonial governor of Maryland, and of Notley Young, one of the original proprietors of the city of Washington...He married Johanna Francis Howle, daughter of Maj. Park G. Howle, USMC, in 1850. He was survived by six children, 18 grandchildren & 13 great-grandchildren.
