A.J. "Pete" Spare, born February 15, 1917, departed this life on Sunday, March 15 at the Hazard ARH medical center. He was 92 years of age at the time of his passing.

He was born in Covington, the son of the late Albert Joseph Spare and the late Valentina Sperti Spare.

He was a retired civil engineer, a devout member of the Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church, a member of the Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers, a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army, a member of the Triangle Fraternity, and he also enjoyed fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Thomas Anthony Spare; and sister Marie Antoinette Spare.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Louise Buchanan Spare of Hazard; sons Michael Albert Spare and fiancé Karla Kaye Hobbs of Hazard; Robert Hugh Spare and wife Marnie of Hazard; John Joseph Spare of Hazard, and Paul George Spare
and wife Janet of Hazard; daughter Monica Anne Spare of Hazard; brother Joseph George Spare and wife Elizabeth of Ft. Mitchell; sister Mary Rita Bell of Park Hills; 10 grandchildren: Steven, Victoria, A.J., Anthony, Sarah, Ashley, Cassi, Kristi, Kevin, Taite, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, March 18 at Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church with Father Mike Chowning officiating. Burial followed in the Resthaven Cemetery located at Jeff.

Engle-Walker Funeral Home of Hazard was in charge of arrangements.
