STAEHLE CARRIE WASHBURNE (April 11, 1900 - June 17, 2001) passed away peacefully at the age of 101 on June 17, 2001 in Pleasanton, CA. Wife of the late Haswell E. Staehle, she is survived by sisters, Grace Harbauer and Frances Ashton, sons, Roger and George, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was born in Rock Falls, IL, grew up in the Grass Lake area of Michigan, graduated from Michigan State Normal College, taught in public schools starting at age eighteen in Michigan and later in Columbus, OH, until the age of eighty-six. She was President Emerita of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority. She lived in Dublin, CA with George and his wife, Gayle since 1988, where she was active in bridge and book groups and was a board member of Dial-A-Ride. Memorial Service and reception, 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2001 at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 7421 Amarillo Rd., Dublin (925) 828-1846. Arrangements by Graham-Hitch Mortuary, Pleasanton, CA (925) 846-5624. Contributions may be made to the Carrie Staehle Scholarhip Fund, c/o Alpha Sigma Tau Foundation, 1929 Canyon Rd., Birmingham, AL 35216-1723.
