Fourth of the eight children of Johann (Jean) Stimmler (1791-1870) and Magdalena (called Lenaney) Schmitt (1893-1870), both from the village where she and all her siblings were born, Thérese emigrated with her parents and surviving siblings (the first two had died as children in Wilwisheim), arriving in New York on 26 Nov. 1839. They came on the packet ship Sully (Cpt. William C. Thompson). The manifest names "Jean Stimler 48, Magd. 44, Magd. 15, Therese 11, Jean 9, Nicolas 6, Fransisca 3, and Franz 1." They brought with them 2 beds, a chest, a trunk & 4 bags (SOURCE: NA Film # M237-40, List 862). The family traveled immediately to Philadelphia, settling in Manayunk and, between 1839 and 1840, built a stone house at Tower Lane and Shurs Street; the house still stands and is inhabited.

Thérese married Carl Casper Wolf (called Charles, b. about 1819 and d. in 1876) in 1849, the year he arrived in Philadelphia from his birthplace, Kassel, Hesse, Germany. Their first child, John, was 5/12 year old in the 1850 census made in August and at that time, she and Charles lived with her parents and siblings in the stone house. The couple had seven more children between 1852 and 1868: Mary (1852), Charles (1854), Rosanna (1859), Nicholas Joseph (1861), Frank A. (1863), Franciska (Fanny, 1865), and Elizabeth (1868). Her husband is listed as a weaver in the 1850 census; in 1860 he is a carpet weaver and in 1870 he worked in a cotton mill.

Charles' untimely death at age 56 left Thérese a widow for the last sixteen years of her life. She remained in Manayunk. The 1878 city directory gives her address as 4419 Thompson Street. In 1880 she is living with five of her children, ages 28 to 12 and all but the youngest work in a cotton mill. The census incorrectly names her (and her parents' as well as her husband's) birthplace as Wurttemberg. They have the same address in 1881 but by 1889, Thérese lives at 2441 Lawrence Street. Three years later, when she died, her address was 2624 Oriana. All these addresses are in the Kensington/West Kensington textiles district of Philadelphia and all the buildings still stand and are occupied today.

Her death certificate indicates that she is buried at "St Mary's, Roxborough." St. Mary's and St. John's churches, in Manayunk, are the burial sites of many of her family members.
