Richard is a son of Samuel E Roskelley and Agnes Elizabeth Thyberg - the fourth of their five children. He grew up in Smithfield, Utah and then attended Dental School in Chicago graduating in 1916.
While Richard was in Dental School he met and married Alice Alicia Phelan on October 19, 1915. After graduation they went to Smithfield, Utah and then Salt Lake City. All of their children were born while they were in Utah. Then they moved to Challis, Idaho where Richard was a Dentist until his death in 1943.
