Tribute of Respect
Jackson, July 16, 1860
At a meeting of Jackson Fire Company, No. 1, held at their Hall on the above date a Committee was appointed to draft suitable resolutions, expressive of the feelings of the Company, in regard to the loss of two of our members by death, when the following were offered and adopted:

Whereas, By the dispensation of an All-Wise Providence, we have been called upon to perform the last said duty devolving upon the living to the dead, the burial of two brother Firemen: therefore,

Resolved, That in the death of our brother fireman, James French, we have lost a true and efficient member, a kind and honorable friend –one whose heart and sympathies were with us in all our undertakings, and when in health and strength, was ever at his post and did his duty well, and whose record as a fireman, a citizen and a friend, is without spot or blemish . . . .
