Burnis Shacklett was a son of Jesse B. Shacklett and Sarah Dodson.

Burnis Shacklett married Susan J. Dowell.

Burnis Shacklett served in the Mexican War for two years under General Scott. Burnis also served in the Civil War from the winter of 1863 on the Rio Grande near Brownsville until the end of the war in 1865.

This little cemetery is located within the boundaries of Wolf Creek Ranch. On Oct 31, 2013 we were fortunate to find the owner's grandson feeding cattle on the ranch, he was very gracious and allowed us access to the cemetery. The little cemetery is in very poor condition, the ranch owner's grandson said that they tried to keep goat within the cemetery fence in the summer time to control some of the grass, weeds, and undergrowth. There are many markers that are broken and on the ground plus lots of graves marked only with a rock or stone that bears no inscription. The cemetery is located on the west side of highway 372 vs. the east side as noted in the description.

Rubbing by Thelma (Hickok) Queen of Wichita, Kansas, granddaughter of Armstead L. Barnes (1843-1923), son of Armstead Barnes (1809-1854) and Elizabeth (Dowell) Barnes. Elizabeth is buried here near her sister, Susan J. (Dowell) Shacklett.

It is unknown exactly when Thelma visited this cemetery. But it was late 1960's to the 1980's.

This is his Great Great Great Great Great Grandson Bennett Brown. Named after his Great Grandfather Burnes Brown Davis, who is BB Shacklet's Great Grandson.
