Max, 74, 1589 West 550 North, Bryant, Ind., died at the Jay County Hospital.

He was born to Homer and Myrtle (Crabill) Butcher. In 1952, he married Martha Noble, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Mark, Pennville, Ind., and Michael, Bryant; six daughters, Wanda (Roger) Downs and Patty (Jerry) Meinerding, all of Bryant, Judy (Timothy) Simon, Olivet, Mich., Diane Shreeve, Amy (Harold Dean) Craig and Lori (Reuben) Theurer, all of Portland; a brother, Homer Jr., Portland; three sisters, Iva Brotherton and Frances Goss, both of Bryant, and Katherine Wood, Greenwood, Ind.; and 24 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was retired from Sheller-Globe and was a farmer.
