Rita Sue (Branch) Etchison, 81, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Miller's Merry Manor in Chesterfield.
Rita was born on April 27, 1936, in Anderson to R. Max and Erma Lee (King) Branch. She graduated from Alexandria High School in 1954 and attended Ball State University. She was active in the Democratic Party and worked as a court reporter for several years.
She was an avid bowler, enjoyed traveling and loved to play bingo. A majorette in high school, Rita gave baton lessons. She enjoyed spending time with her family at the lake. Rita had a sense of adventure and a sharp wit.
Survivors include three daughters, Teri Michael, Toni Hobbs and Traci (Randy) Gates, all of Anderson; seven grandchildren, John (Paisha) Thomas, Lindsay (Wade) Stafford, Stephen (Lita) Nuce, Matthew Nuce, Samuel Nuce, Tucker Gates and Annie Gates; and three great-grandchildren, Madison, Anzlee and Sofie.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Brian Etchison.
Family and friends are invited to a time of sharing from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Owens Funeral Home, Alexandria.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Madison County Humane Society through the funeral home.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to staff and caregivers at Miller's Merry Manor for the kind and compassionate care they gave not only to Rita in her last days, but her family as well.
