He was a firefighter for the D. C. Fire Department for 28 years and was very active in the White Sand Harbor Community where he was the founder of the White Sand Harbor Citizen's Watch.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Jean Claggett; his children, Michael Claggett (Becky), Debbie Gaudet (Kevin) and Tim Claggett; four grandchildren, Matt Wakeman, Justin Wakeman (Michelle), Erin Hancock and Mandy Ames and five great grandchildren, Abby and Kiley Hancock and Hunter, Leighton, and Carter Wakeman. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Ann Claggett.
A Mass will be held 7:00 p. m. Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, Va. Family will receive friends 5to 7 p. m. prior to the service. Interment will take place 1:00 p. m. Friday, May 26 at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 4111 Pennsylvania Ave, Suitland, MD 20746
