STRATFORD -Eleanor K. Kroening, 87, of Stratford, died at 12:41 am. May 22, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield where she had been admitted on May 20.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at Zion Lutheran Church ELCA in Stratford. Rev. Sue Eidahl, pastor, will officiate. Music will be provided by organist Judy Polege with congregational singing. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Kroening, Kurt Kroening, Randy Redetzke, Ryan Redetzke, David Mohr and Robert Sullivan. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the SauterKundinger Funeral Home and from 10 am. until service time Saturday at the church.

Eleanor was born Feb. 13, 1914, in the town of Richfield in Wood County, the daughter of Benjamin and Anna (nee Bartelmess) Pember. She attended Shady Nook School in the town of Richfield and graduated from McKinley High School in 1931. She then attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing for two years.

She and Emil C. Kroening exchanged their wedding vows on Sept. 9, 1933, in Marshfield. Following their marriage, Eleanor and her husband farmed in the town of Cleveland until 1972. They then moved to Stratford.

While Eleanor resided in Stratford she quietly kept busy being very active in her church and being with her church family. She also loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Eleanor and Emil celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1983. Mrs. Kroening was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church ELCA and and member of the Ladies Aid.

She is survived by her children, Donald Kroening of Stratford, Marvin (Judy) Kroening of Wausau and Marjorie (Dennis) Redetzke of Marshfield. She is further survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Dora Sullivan of Marshfield; one brother, Allen Pember of Marshfield; one brother-in-law, Harold Esser of Marshfield; and one sister-in-law, Adeline Kroening of Pelican Lake.

She was predeceased by her husband, Emil, on Dec. 7, 1988; by her parents; one brother, Clifford Pember; and one sister, Loretta Esser. Memorials to Zion Lutheran Church ELCA in Stratford on behalf of Eleanor K. Kroening will be appreciated.
