Albert J. Barenthin, 95, of Champaign died on Monday, May 22, 2017.

Albert was born on June 1, 1921 in Wheatland, IA; a son of Albert and Anna (Mimdin) Barenthin. He married Ruth Herin in St. Louis on February 14, 1943.

Albert is survived by their children, E. Jean Barenthin of Savoy, John (Linda) Barenthin of Champaign and Ken (Cindy) Barenthin of Monticello; 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, 3 sisters and 6 brothers.

Albert served in the U.S. Air Force from 1941-1946, he was a proud patriot and loyal to this Country his entire life. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota and began his career as a coach and teacher. Albert worked as a high school teacher, baseball and basketball coach in Atkins, IA for 6 years. He then moved to Illinois where he continued as an elementary school teacher in Philo. After 19 years in Philo he earned his retirement in 1982.

Albert had been a member of Stratford Park Bible Chapel for 50 years. He was a lifelong Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeyes fan.
