Phyllis Ann (Anson) Barrett, 76 year old lifelong Seminole resident passed from this life Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at her home.

She was born March 22, 1941 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to parents Woodrow Thomas Anson Sr. and Ella Irene (Dunagan) Anson.

Phyllis grew up in Seminole County, Oklahoma attending New Lima Public Schools and graduating from Seminole High School in 1960.

Phyllis was a longtime member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Seminole. She began attending Immaculate Conception Church when she was 9 years old at the old Catholic Church that was located just southwest of Oak Street and Milt Phillips Ave. in Seminole. Phyllis had been a very active member throughout the years. She was a member of the Altar Society, she taught Catechism, and helped with the youth group. Phyllis and her husband Pat were both Oblate affiliates of St. Gregory’s Abbey in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Phyllis married Patrick Michael “Pat” Barrett on December 22, 1959 in Seminole at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Father Thomas Rabideau O.S.B.

Phyllis went on to work as a surgical technician at Seminole Municipal Hospital during the 1960’s. She then dedicated her time to her family and her Church.

As “Father Thomas” aged and began to lose his sight Phyllis would make sure to chauffeur him where ever he needed to be. Phyllis was very proud of the fact that “Father Thomas” had performed her and her children’s wedding ceremonies. He had also baptized three generations of her family.

Phyllis leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of 58 years, Patrick Michael “Pat” Barrett of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Terry Barrett of Norman, Oklahoma and their daughter, Megan Barrett of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one daughter and son-in-law, Angelia and David Goss of Norman, Oklahoma and their children, Blake Goss of Norman, Oklahoma and Zach Goss of Norman, Oklahoma; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Debbie Anson of Seminole, Oklahoma; one sister, Elizabeth Brooks of Wetumka, Oklahoma; and a host of other family and dear friends.

Phyllis is preceded by her parents, Woodrow “W.T.” Anson and Irene Anson; by three brothers, David Anson, Woodrow T. Anson Jr., and by infant brother, Joseph Jasper Anson.

A Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Father Joseph Schwarz officiating.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Monday, May 22, 2017 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church located on Wrangler Blvd. in Seminole. With the Rt. Rev. Lawrence Stasyszen, O.S.B., Abbot of St. Gregory’s Abbey will officiate the service, assisted by Father Brendan Helbing O.S.B. and Father Nicholas Ast O.S.B.

Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole, Oklahoma located 2 miles east of Seminole on Hwy. 270.

Pallbearers will be: Jerry Anson, Scott Douthit, Matt Anson, David Goss, Blake Goss, and Zach Goss.

The family request that donations be made to the Oblate program at St. Gregory’s Abbey, 1900 West MacArthur, Shawnee, Oklahoma 74804 in memory of Phyllis Barrett. Donations may also be made to the Oklahoma Heart Association.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
