Hilda Elizabeth Snoots Harshman. 98, of Hagerstown, Maryland, formerly of Myersville, Maryland, died peacefully at home Sunday, May 14, 2017.
She was born April 14, 1919, in Jefferson, MD, the daughter of the late Roger Cleveland Snoots and Fannie Grace Pearl Snoots.
Hilda lived in Myersville most of her adult life until 2005, when she moved to Hagerstown to live with her family, which included her daughter in law's parents Lucy and Bill Eshelman.
She spent her early adult years living on a farm and doing all of the work that was required for that life. After leaving the farm, she worked in the Hood College cafeteria. She also had a great love of children and for many years babysat many children, including her own two grandchildren.
She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, Church Hill, Myersville, Maryland.
In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her family and friends, along with word puzzle books, working on puzzles with her buddy Lucy, watching "Family Feud" (always wanting to know when Steve was on) and "Dancing with the Stars".
She is survived by her son, Robert Harshman and wife Martha of Hagerstown; sister Naomi Snoots Mount of Mount Airy, Maryland; two grandchildren, Jason Harshman of Hagerstown and Melissa Silvers and husband, Larry, of Boyton Beach, FL, and one great-granddaughter, Kellyann Silvers, as well as many nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by friends Karen May, Margaret Byrd, and family dogs, Teek and Rocky.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 2004 by her husband of 61 years, Ross Eugene Harshman; and seven brothers and sisters; Raymond Snoots, Roy Snoots, Millard Snoots, Roger Snoots, Ruth Virginia Snoots Stang, Grace Snoots Stang, and Ruby Snoots Rippeon.
The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Md. Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 6 PM till 9 PM. Graveside services will be Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 3 PM, and officiated by the Rev. John Sumpter and held at Mount Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Main Street, Myersville, MD.
