Founder of Chalk's Ocean Airways. Arthur B Chalk was an automobile mechanic in Paducah, Kentucky. In 1911 Chalk met Tony Jannus (later a pilot for the St Petersburg-Tampa Airboat Line), who subsequently gave Mr Chalk flying lessons in exchange for repairs on his aircraft. Mr Chalk relocated to Miami in 1917, operating as an ad hoc charter operator "Red Arrow Flying Service".

Arthur Chalk served in the Air Corps during WWI creating a disruption in service. In Feb 1919, after the war ended he returned to Miami and began oprations as Chalk's Flying Service. With regular flights from Downtown Miami (Watson Island) to Bimini (Alicetown, Bahamas).

Over the years Chalk's has had many famous passengers: Lana Turner, Errol Flynn and Ernest Hemingway and famous subsequent owners: Donald Trump and Merv Griffin. The airline has appeared in movies "The Silence of the Lambs" and "Miami Vice".

Chalk retired in 1964 after the death of his wife, Lillie Mae Chalk, who helped run the operations since their marriage in 1932.

Arthur B Chalk is killed on May 26, 1977, when he falls out of tree at home while pruning it.
