Reta Bates Hood
  Reta Hood, age 96, of Salt Lake City, UT, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2002 in Holladay, Utah.
  Reta was born September 26, 1905 in Richfield, UT to Nephi James and Flora Louise Maiben Bates. On May 08, 1926, She married John Ronald Hood, their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
  Reta was schooled in and graduated from the public schools in Richfield, Utah. She attended and graduated from the University of Utah where she received her teaching degree. She worked as a secretary in law offices and the Con Wagon Office on State Street. Reta also taught grade school in the Salt Lake School District for approximately 15 years. She enjoyed music, reading, handwork including knitting and crocheting; learning, nature, flowers and especially being with her family. She was a member of the LDS Church and served in many of the auxiliaries in her Ward and Stake. She will be missed and loved by all her family.
  Survivors include her son, John Ronald (Millie) Hood of Las Vegas, NV, daughter Janet L. (Robert) Shipp, Walnut Creek, CA, daughter, Joan (Ronald) Merz of Salt Lake City, UT, son, Robert James (Jill) Hood of Indianapolis, IN, sister, Alta Bates Christiansen, 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, three great- great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, and son-in-law, Rita Jean (Robert) Contestable, brother Henry Bates, sisters, Stella Sidwell, Irene Bates, Mildred Watrous and Lucile Ford.
  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, where friends may call Wednesday evening, May 29, 2002 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., and on Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Funeral Directors: The Holbrook Mortuary.
