Sarah Catherine Bourn (Bowen as alt. sp.) Carver
aka Catherine Bowen
aka Catherine Carver
aka Caty Carver

Written history tells she is buried in the Sandhill Cemetery. There are several unmarked graves at this cemetery.

It is strongly corroborated, but still a working theory, that her maiden name was actually "Bourn* because of the name's appearance when written in cursive writing, from that period. The surname was transcribed, using either spelling in census reports, and other government documents.

Catherine "Caty" Bowen (AKA Caty Carver) b. abt. 1810 d.aft. 1850 is the mother of Francis (Frances) Pearl Lott b.1848 d.1923, whom she conceived with Daniel Lott b.1791 d.1872.

Catherine and Dan Lott had a total of 5 children together, but Catherine and Dan were not married. It was known that they had, at least, an eight year relationship, evidenced by the birth of all their children. He claimed them openly as his own, and several lived with him.

Catherine was still living in Telfair County in 1850, per the 1850 census, which names 7 children living with her. Two children are from her marriage with Samuel Braswell Carver, and five with Daniel Lott.
Catherine lived in Telfair County, GA, sections of which were claimed to form Coffee County in 1854.
After her death, Catherine and Dan's children went to live at his home. The 1860 census shows the children living in his household, except Sarah because she married David H. Kirkland in 1859.
Catherine died sometime between 1850 and 1860. Daniel married his second wife, Frances Gaskins, in 1849.

She is living next door to Daniel Lott in the census, since his is the next family listed.
It is said that Cathy (another spelling) is buried in a family cemetery located near Sand Hill Church, Coffee County, GA.

* My working theory is that her last name is actually Bourn, instead o Bowen. The Bourn name morphed into Bowen for some close relatives. There is some evidence that leads me to believe that her parents are Bennett Bourn and Catherine Music. This would make her the sister of Richard Music, who was the sheriff of Ware County. Her other siblings would be Bennett Bourn (died during Civil War), and Sarah Bourn. Some say that Sarah Bourn is the wife of Sampson Braswell Carver and mother of William Braswell Carver, but there is no official record of a Sarah. This leads me to believe that Catherine's full name is Sarah Catherine Bourn Carver. Her son, William Braswell Carver, named his children: Catherine, Jackson, and Fannie - the name of his mother and maternal grandmother; his half-brother and half-sister, listed with him in the 1850 census for Caty Carver. In many instances, the name Bourn has morphed into Bowen in written records because of cursive writing styles of the record keeper and the difficulty of transcribing these old records. In the instance of Bennett Bourn's widow Clementine, her name transformed into Bowen several years after she moved from Telfair County to Florida. Clementine would be Catherine Bourn (Bowen) Carver's sister-in-law, proving the interchangeable spelling of their sir names.
