Ole L. Skogen, 86 of Ely died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007 at the Veterans Home in Silver Bay. He was born April 8, 1920 in Farwell, Minn., to Edward and Alvina (Block) Skogen. Ole served in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II. He worked as a logger and also owned and operated the Phillips 66 station in Ely. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards and was an avid reader. Ole was a member of First Lutheran Church in Ely and the American Legion in Ely. He is preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd; sisters, Mabel and Helen; and son-in-law, Bill Thorpe. Ole is survived by his loving wife, Beverley; daughters, Debby Thorpe, Sherry (John) Williams and Dana (Brady) Stroschein; seven grandchildren; and sister, Celia Olsen. MEMORIAL SERVICE:11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2007 in the Isabella Community Center in Isabella with Pastor Brad Shannon officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at Isabella Cemetery. Services entrusted to the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 624-5200.
