Anna Munroe was born 15 MAR 1867 in Columbus, Anoka County, Minnesota, the daughter of Yost, Yost and Agatha Gassman, both natives of Switzerland. She married Daniel W. Munroe, a native of Franklin County, New York, whose parents were born in Scotland. She was the mother of two sons and one daughter, all born in Superior, Douglas County, WI. Her husband, Daniel W. Munroe died in St. Louis County, MN., in 1912. The surname Munroe has also been spelled as "Monroe." She raised her three children on her own, never having re-married. She worked as a servant, a laundress for a family, to support herself. She lived in Superior, Douglas County, WI., after her marriage, and in Virginia, Minnesota. Her obituary was published in the Mesabi Daily News, Virginia, Minnesota, on Friday, August 2, 1946, as follows:

"Monroe Funeral Rites Scheduled Here Saturday.

Mrs. Anna Yost Munroe, 79, of Hibbing and formerly a Virginia resident, died yesterday at the Hibbing Hospital. She was born on March 15, 1867, in Anoka County, MN, the daughter of a pioneer family who settled early. She was the last member of the Yost family. Mrs. Munroe was a member of the Methodist Church of this city and also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America lodge. She had made her home in Hibbing for the last two years.

She leaves two sons, George W. of Superior, WI., and Yost, of Hibbing; one daughter, Mrs. L. H. Wellman of San Diego; two granddaughters, Miss Mary Esther Munroe of Hibbing and Mrs. George B. Thomas of Quantico, Virginia; and two great grandsons, Leslie Munroe Thomas and John Lee Thomas of Quantico.

The body will lie in state at the Ryder Funeral Home, Hibbing, until 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon when it will be brought to Virginia for funeral services at 2:30 o'clock at the First Methodist Church. Rev. G. F. Bailey, of Hibbing will officiate. Internment will be in the family plot in Greenwood Cemetery.

Honorary casket bearers will be Charles Ruse, E. O. Sorenson, F. D. Stowell, George Setterholm, T. L. Tranaas, all of Virginia, and H. T. Reifel, of Eveleth."
