Elsie Marie Cowan, 87 of Balko died on April 29, 2017 in Perryton, Texas. She was born October 19, 1929 in Guymon, Oklahoma.

She was active in the Boyd Women’s Club, Balko 4-H, and she was a member of the Balko Baptist Church. Elsie was also known for her many years of quilting and delicious home cooking. Very dear to her heart was making quilts for Boy’s Ranch students for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin (Dude) Cowan; her parents; and, a son, Loyd Ray Cowan; a son-in-law, Bill O’Dell; and 4 sisters Alma, Rene, Dorothy and Barbara.

She is survived by nine children: Alvin Cowan, Jr. and wife, Rennie, of Perryton, Texas; Linda O’Dell of Balko; Martha Dunn and husband, Larry of Elkhart, Kansas; Lola Douglas of Balko; Judy Bennett and husband, Thomas, of Rockwall, Texas, Janet Gift and husband, Harold, of Port Lavaca, Texas; Leland Cowan and wife, Debora, of Balko; Bruce Cowan and wife, Tracey, of Perryton; and Tommy Cowan, of Balko.

She had 19 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 sisters, Ruby, Laveta and Jane.
