Alvin Benjamin "Dude" COWAN, 80, of Balko, Oklahoma, died November 6, 1999 at the Beaver County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 9, at Balko Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Day and Edwin Waterbury officiating.
Burial was in Bethany Cemetery in Balko. Pallbearers were nine nephews, and honorary pallbearers were Beaver County District
No. 3 Employees and Perryton VFW Post members.
He was born January 7, 1919 in rural Prowers County, near Lamar, Colorado. He married his wife, Elsie, 53 years ago. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 45th Division from 1941-45. He received a Good Conduct Medal American Ribbon, Bronze Star, 45th Division Service Ribbon and Silver Service Star.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Ola COWAN; and three brothers, Steve, Fred and Jim COWAN.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie, of the home; five sons, Alvin COWAN, Jr. and Bruce COWAN, both of Perryton, Lloyd Ray COWAN of Beaver, Oklahoma, Leland COWAN and Tommy COWAN, both of Balko, Oklahoma; five daughters, Linda O'DELL of Eureka, Nevada, Martha DUNN of Elkhart, Kansas, Lola DOUGLAS of Balko, Oklahoma, Judy BENNETT of Rockwall and Janet GIFT of Port Lavaca; two brothers, Everett COWAN of Balko and Beryl COWAN of Bolivar, Missouri; 20 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
