Obituary: After a lifetime of service to family, clients and friends, Armond Clifford Smart, 80, passed away at the Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Saturday, December 31, 1994, of complications due to cancer.

He was born May 25, 1914 in Preston, Idaho, to James Gittens and Nora Elvina Jensen Smart. He married Rula Bell, November 13, 1944 at Preston, Idaho. The marriage was solemnized in the Logan Temple.

He attended school in Preston and graduated from Preston High School. Later, he attended the University of Idaho Southern Branch of Pocatello and the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City.

During his lifetime he was employed at Utah Poultry Producers Association, U.S. Postal Service, Utah-Idaho Sugar Co. in Preston, and the U.S. Army Depot in Ogden. Armond was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Military Police. He was a proud member of the American Legion, Post #58, Smithfield, Utah, for 49 years.

After his discharge from the U.S. Army, he worked for the Railway Mail Express between Pocatello, Idaho, Green River, Wyoming and Ontario, Oregon. Other places of employment were Lundberg Motor Co., Logan, Williamson Body & Equipment Co., Ogden, and for the last 34 years he was an employee of Harris Truck & Equipment in Tremonton, selling heavy duty road equipment. He enjoyed his profession as a salesman, and valued the friendship and association of the business and professional people he served.

He was an avid reader and had a vast collection of both modern and ancient history books.

Armond was a member of the LDS Church, having served in the Sunday School Superintendency of the old Smithfield third ward.

He taught his family to be self reliant and self sufficient. "We will miss you Dad. Thanks for giving us a good life".

Armond is survived by his wife, Rula; and daughter, Sandra Leigh (Sandy), both of Smithfield; two sons, Cordell, of Smithfield; Gary, of Murray; five grandchildren, Russell, Stephanie, Andrew, Christopher and Neal Smart; two step grandchildren, Michael Marchant and Sherry Cook, all of whom were the love and delight of his life; two sisters, Ida Bosen, of Layton; Jessie Budge, of Medford, Oregon. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd, David and Parley, five sisters, Nora, LaVeda, Leona, Hazel and Jennie.

Funeral services Thursday, January 5, 1995, 12 noon in the Smithfield 3rd Ward Chapel, 79 East 200 South, with Bishop Thomas Blanchard conducting. Friends may call at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan, Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the church Thursday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery with military graveside services being conducted by the Smithfield American Legion Post #58.
