Mrs. Layman was born December 1, 1927, in the Zenda Area of Rockingham County, and was the daughter of the late Thurston and Alice Mitchell Lawson.
Helen and her husband ran a Country Store for many years in the Mayland Road area of Broadway, but her main joy in life was being a mother and homemaker.
On October 8, 1948, she married Haller O. Layman who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Glen Lawson, Berlin Lawson and Vernon Lawson; sisters, Ethel Steris, Elsie Funkhouser and Elva Showalter; half-brothers, Claude Lawson, Elmer Lawson and Leon Lawson and a half-sister, Frances Armentrout.
She is survived by a daughter, Vickie Kisling and husband, Hensel.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with Pastor William Staton officiating.
