Born in Nelson County on Dec. 6, 1935, he was a son of the late William Meeks and Annie Mays Allen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years, Delores Ann Lawhorne Allen; and three sisters, Carolyn Jones, Betty Robertson and Mattie Evans.
Mr. Allen was a retired truck driver for Fleming Foods who enjoyed many hours in his garden and was a member of Massies Mill Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by two sons, William Calvin Allen Jr. "Billy" and his wife, Linda and Larry Dean Allen and his wife, Crystal; two daughters, Delores Diane Mays and her husband, B.L. and Kim Swindell and her husband, Bobby, all of Tyro; two brothers, Lester Allen of Tyro and Houston Allen of Amherst; three sisters, Linda Hash of Concord, Mary Bersch of Madison Heights and Phyllis Williams of Shipman; eight grandchildren, Matthew Allen, Michael and Chris Mays, William Swindell, Morgan and Madison Allen, Brian Fitzgerald and Matt Oliver.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home, with Pastor Bill MeNeely officiating. Interment will follow in Jonesboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home today.
