John Brewer were born in the Parish of St. Column Minor May 13, 1822 and died at his farm home 2 miles Northeast of Linden on July 24, 1898. He had been in failing health since early spring but not seriously until Monday, July 18 when he received a paralytic stroke and from that time he gradually grewer weaker until he peacefully passed beyond into that mysterious house from when no traveler has ever returned.
Mr. Brewer was united in marriage in England to Miss Jane Liddicoat in 1848 and they came to America arriving in Mineral Point on the 4th day of October 1851 and commenced farming in the neighborhood of Laxy in the town of Linden. From this union was born 11 children 5 of whome proceded the father in death. In September 1866 his wife was taken from his side leaving him with 9 small children. Three years later in 1869 he moved into his present farm in town of Linden. Twentyfive years ago he was united in marriage with Mrs. Ann Brewer who is left mourn the loss of a good and affectionate husband. From this union 2 children were born.

Mr. Brewer was reguarded as more then ordinary farmer his efforts being compensated by the splendid farm which surrounded his home. He leaves to mourn him his wife and 8 children, six daughter and two sons who are Mrs. Hammill of Britt IA, Mrs. Martha De Witt of Avoca, and Mrs. Jane Liddicoat of the township of Linden, Mrs. Libby Gruber of Mifflin, Mr. Fred Brewer, and Mrs. Alma Correll all of the town of Linden; two brothers and one sister, Mr. Edward Brewer of Plankinton South Dakota, Mrs R.J. Penhallagon of Mineral Point, and Mr. William Brewer of Linden. The funeral took place from his farm home on Tuesday July 30 with appropriate services in the ME Church conducted by Rev. C.L. Cook and the remains were laid to rest in the family lot in the Linden Cemetery.
