Mrs. Metta Evans, 84, Passed Away Sunday After Long Illness – Virden Recorder, April 1951
Funeral services for Mrs. Metta A. Evans, 84, who died at 3 p.m. Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Osborne, where she resided, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Virden Baptist church.

Mrs. Evans was born February 15, 1867 near Carrollton, a daughter of John Perry and Ellen Browning. In 1888, she was married o R. B. Evans. She was a member of the Virden Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Mrs. John Osborne, Mrs. Ben Osborne and Miss Lena Evans, all of Virden; four brothers, Dr. Pleasant Harvey Browning, San Jose, Calif., Joseph Browning, Pasadena Calif., Paul and Norman Browning, both of Orlando, Fla; three grand-daughters, Mrs. Howard Cox, Mrs. Don Enrietta, and Marilyn Osborne, all of Virden; and two great-grandsons, Jackie and Jimmy Cox.
