"Virginia M. (Sever) Mikrut, 97, died on Jan. 7, 2017 in Keystone Eagan Community.

She was born in Duluth, on July 29, 1919 to Anna (Rozich) and Frank Sever.

Virginia was married in 1940 to George J. Mikrut, Sr. for 58 years until his death in 1998. Virginia was a devoted and beloved wife and mother. She welcomed visitors with her beautiful smile, a spirited laugh and home baked goods while doing the Daily Jumble or crossword puzzles. Strong in faith, Virginia belonged to Good Shepard and St James Catholic Churches. She displayed a rare gift of understanding, open-mindedness and acceptance of all.

She was a member of TOPS; the Slovenian Women's Union; and volunteered at Food Shelf.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George J., Sr.; and oldest daughter, Marguerite Brandenhoff; her parents; brothers, Francis, Lawrence and Philip Sever; brothers-in-law, Irvin "Bud" Tverberg, Joseph and Frank Mikrut, and Donald Vormwald; sisters-in-law, Margaret "Margie" (Mikrut) Gardonio, Helen (Mikrut) Swiderski, Eva (Mikrut) Bastien and Aloha 'Toy' Mikrut.

She is survived by three of her four children, George J., Jr (Ellane) of Thousand Oaks, Calif. Janet Mikrut (George Chemeche) of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Patricia (Ostrowski) Sever of Eagan, Minn.; two grandchildren, Yvonne (Ostrowski) Strickland and Mark Brandenhoff (Jessica); and five great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Jada Strickland; Isabel, Zoey and Isaac Brandenhoff; sister, Althea (Sever) Tverberg; sisters-in-law, Margaret Sever of Alameda, Calif., Helen (Nassin) Sever of Duluth, Loretta "Dolly" (Mikrut) Vormwald of Dallas, Texas; and brother-in-law, Michael "Micky" Mikrut of Coon Rapids, Minn.

VISITATION: 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 in St. James Catholic Church. Rev Fr James Bissonette officiating. Burial at Oneota Cemetery.
