Harold was born on May 1, 1929, in Manton, Michigan to Warren and Lulu (Johnston) VanWyck. He was raised in the Manton area, attending and eventually graduating from Manton High School. Harold made his living working as a welder for Steelcase celebrating over 22 years of service there before his eventual retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying snowmobiling, fishing, hunting and even spent trips in the U.P. where he could hunt bear. Harold was a proud member of the Manton Senior Center and served his country with the United States Marine Corp.
He was preceded in death by a son, Harold VanWyck, Jr.; one brother, Warren Jr.; his wife, Mary and second wife, Lydia VanWyck.
