Donald C. "Dewey" Ditzler Sr., 77, of Mount Carbon, passed away Thursday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill E. Norwegian Street.

Born in Schuylkill Haven, Oct. 30, 1939, he was a son of the late Solomon Dewey and Bessie Nee Sterner Ditzler.

Dewey worked as a truck driver for Quinn Concrete, Palo Alto, for 18 years and then for R.L. Derr Construction, Pottsville, for 35 years until retiring.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Port Carbon, Buck Fever Rod and Gun Club, New Ringgold Hunting Club, Second Mountain Rod and Gun Club and Mount Carbon Fire Company.

Dewey loved going hunting and fishing, to the cabin, watching NASCAR, the Green Bay Packers, and watching old western TV shows and movies.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Ann Martin Ditzler, on Jan. 2, 2016; a grandson, Nicholas Ebling; a twin brother, Ronald Ditzler; a brother, Carl Ditzler; two half sisters, Alvena and Betty.

Dewey is survived by three daughters, Donna Spiess and her husband, Gregory, Lisa Ebling and her husband, Harold, and Holly Rhodes, all of Pottsville; three sons, William "Rocky" Ditzler and his wife, Lisa, New Ringgold, Donald "Bo" Ditzler Jr. and his fiancee, Sharon, Pottsville, and William Deiter and his fiancee, Ashley Prutzman, Pottsville; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Aronsfield, Virginia; two brothers, Thomas Ditzler, Pottsville, and Lawrence Ditzler, Lake Wynonah; a half sister, Carol Joyce Wessner, Pottsville; nieces and nephews.

A religious service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home, 208 Pike St., Port Carbon, with the Rev. Lorraine Heckman officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mount Peace Cemetery, Minersville.
