circles here, died last night in
her home, 860 W. Ferry St., after
an illness of two months.
Mrs. Sherman, whose art works

wife of the late Dr. DeWitt Halsey
Sherman, prominent Buffalo

A pupil of some of Europe's
best-known art teachers, Mrs.
Sherman studied for four years
under Kathe Streich in Dresden,
Germany. Then came a year's
coaching under Gustave Courtois
In Paris. Further study under
Mr. and Mrs. Stanhope Forbes in
Cornwall, England, followed.
Finally, she became a pupil of
Mane Katz, the celebrated New
York art teacher.

of his interests in the
business in 1917 to serve with
the American Red Cross in
France during World War I. He
died after the war.
She was married to Dr. Sherman
in 1925.
Active in art and social activities
here, Mrs. Sherman was
a member of the Patteran Society,
an organization affiliated
with Albright Art Gallery, the
National Society of Women
Artists, the Colonial Dames, and
of St. Andrew's Episcopal
Church.
A son by her first marriage,
Knowlton Mixer Jr., of San Francisco,
