Betty Rose Berlekamp, age 97, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Birchaven Heights. Betty was born on October 25, 1919 in Findlay to David E. and Clara N. (Metheany) Smith. Betty was a 1938 graduate of Findlay High School. She married Billy Bishop Berlekamp on January 17, 1942, and he died on April 21, 1998. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage together. Betty and Bill had one son, Bruce Bishop Berlekamp, who died in 1966 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident while serving in the Air Force in California. Betty was a medical assistant to Dr. Donald Haas, MD, and later a secretary at the First National Bank, now Fifth Third. Betty was also a long time volunteer with the American Red Cross Blood Mobile, and at Blanchard Valley Hospital. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Findlay. Preceding Betty in death, in addition to her parents, husband, and son were five sisters: Lola Bakeis of Pekin, Illinois; Editha Loehr of Cleveland, Ohio; Pauline Mitchell of Findlay; Raundi Shegal of Birmingham, Michigan; and Ruth Helvie of Findlay. She also was predeceased by two brothers, Lester Smith of Detroit, Michigan and Robert R. Smith of Findlay. She is survived by two nephews, Randy Smith of Naples, Florida and David E. Mitchell of St. Joseph, Michigan. Private graveside services will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Contributions in Betty's memory may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 128 West Hardin Street, Findlay. Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
