Angus Ferguson was born in Jones County Mississippi in 1843. Not much of his life is known until he served for the Confederacy. He first enlisted in June 1861 and served with the 27th Mississippi Infantry Company B, but was not engaged until transferred to the 56th Alabama Cavalry Company D where he was mustered on September 1, 1862.
The 56th Cavalry is also known as the Partisan Rangers and their first call to duty was to North Georgia where they participated in many battles of the Dalton-Atlanta Campaign. The 56th then proceeded to harass Sherman's march but where backed into the trenches in Savannah. Ferguson was eventually taken prisoner at Citronelle, Alabama in May 1865 and was paroled in May 1865. April-May 1865 -- Final Surrenders among Remaining Confederate Troops.

He came to Texas some time in 1870's.
Ferguson worked as a farmer in Texas until he was admitted to the Texas Confederate Home in Austin on August 20, 1900 due to the disabilities of rheumatism and failing eye sight. Ferguson was discharged at request multiple times from the Home and applied for pension on Jan 12. 1907 which was approved on March 25, 1907. Ferguson was admitted to the Home for the final time February 6, 1909 and stayed in the home until his death on February 16, 1924 at the age of 81.

After the war Angus married Elizabeth Ann Keeton in about 1869 in Jones Co., MS, after her death he married her sister,Mariah Jane Keeton Anderson April 30, 1879 in Freestone Co., TX. He married Rachel Samantha Carroll Anderson in 1883 in Hill Co., Tx and was the father of Maud Ferguson.
He was listed as a resident of the Home on the 1903 Austin City Directory.
He was the son of Angus Ferguson & Dicy Cooper Ferguson from Jones Co., Mississippi. He had 7 siblings, of which 4 moved to Texas after the Civil War
