John Richard Keating was the eldest child of John Dunn Keating, Sr. and Anna Marie Sanford.
He married to widow Maria Louise (née Woolwine) Polk on 29 Nov 1865 in Panola County, Texas. Before her death in 1879, their known offspring were:
- Mary "Mollie" Keating (1867-?)
- Minnie Lee Keating (1872–1958)
- Arthur Woolwine Keating (1875–1943)
He married Mary Narcissa Carter on 26 Aug 1880 in Eulalie (now Bryce), Rusk County, Texas. Their known children were:
- Ossie Vandola Keating (1885-1886)
- Essie Lucille Keating (1886-1951)
As noted on the memorial plaque at County Line Cemetery in Rusk County, he was buried at that location and his second widow set aside acreage for the cemetery property. The community name of Eulalie was renamed Bryce after the post office there was closed in 1907. The cemetery and County Line Church are all the only remains of this early lumbering community.
