Marvin made profession of faith at an early age at the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church. He later became a member of Covenant Reformed Church in Pella. Throughout his life he served on the council of various churches, the Pella Christian Grade School Board and the Pella Co-op Board.
He served our country in the Korean war from 1952 – 1954. On June 24, 1954, Marvin was united in marriage to Pauline Kloosterman in Pella. To this union they were blessed with four sons: Jerry Allen, Ronald Dean, Donald Ray, and David Lee.
Marvin farmed in the Newton area for ten years, then moved to a farm northeast of Pella for 31 years. In 1995, they moved to Pella to manage Meadow Wood Apartments, and Marvin drove school bus for Pella Christian schools. Marvin and Pauline retired to a duplex in Pella in November of 2003.
