Charley attended Woodlin High School. In 1969 Charley moved to Fort Morgan, where he has lived most of his life. On October 9, 1971, he married Leone Mehring at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Akron. Charley worked for Schlumberger Well Services for over 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting. Charley also enjoyed chess, coin and gun collecting. His favorite activity was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Leone of Fort Morgan; his children, Wayne Smelser of Grand Junction, CO, Michelle (Mark) DeMille of Whitewater, CO and Matthew (Chelsey) of Grand Junction, CO; his Mother, Helen Heberlein of Brush, CO; Siblings, Shirley Wise of Phoenix, AZ, Marjie Hottinger of Akron, CO, Darrel Adolf and Patty Heberlein both of Greeley, CO, Connie Cluff of Brush, CO, and Mary Heberlein of Seattle, WA; and 6 grandchildren, Austin, Zoey, Payton, Shelby, Keira, and Jacob Alderman.
He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph; 2 brothers, John Andrew Adolf and Dennis Adolf, and his Father.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Helena’s Catholic Church in Fort Morgan on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. with a luncheon to follow. A double Interment will be at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Akron at 1:30 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospital Burn Center, The Brain Cancer Society, or Hodgkin’s Lymphoma / Leukemia Society, C/O Heer Mortuary, 225 E. Platte Ave., Fort Morgan, CO 80701.
