Cleo Tarter, 85, retired Pulaski County merchant and farmer, died Tuesday morning at the home of his son, Earl Tarter of Saline. Death came after a short illness.

The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Pete Tarter, Mr. Tarter was born near Naomi December 24, 1868. He married Miss Louella Norfleet before the turn of the century and two sons were born to this union. Mrs. Tarter preceded him in death.

A member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church at Naomi, Mr. Tarter was extremely active in church for many years. His honest, upright character and his fair business dealings won him many friends here during his life. His death is mourned by his family and many friends.

Mr. Tarter is survived by two sons, Earl Tarter and Zollie Tarter, of West Somerset.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Bethlehem Baptist Church. The Rev. Bert Whitaker conducted the services. Burial was in the Norfleet cemetery.
