PHOENIX, Ariz. - Phoebe Ormond Welch, 81, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, returned to her Heavenly Father, Dec. 30, 2004, in Phoenix, Ariz. She was born Dec. 16, 1923, the youngest of five, to Leonard C. Ormond and Zetta Ann Hancock, in their home.
Phoebe spent her growing-up years in Bancroft. After she married, she moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where she lived until August 1993 when she sold her home and moved to Phoenix to be near her daughter, Jill Hammond.
Phoebe married George Junior Welch in the LDS Temple Oct. 2, 1944. They had two daughters, Lyn Welch Green and Jill Welch Maughan Hammond.
She graduated from North Gem High School in May 1942. They moved to Ogden, Utah, to work at the Ogden Arsenal in support of World War II. In 1945 she graduated as salutatorian of Ricks College. She was an active member of the LDS Church, where she served in many of the auxiliaries. She also filled a family history mission in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She worked for the Bancroft Grain Growers, taught kindergarten in Inkom, Idaho, and was office manager for a dental office in Pocatello.
Her survivors include two daughters and their husbands. Jill (Paul) Hammond, Phoenix, Ariz., and Lynn (Bill) Green, Port Angeles, Wash., five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers, two son-in-laws, and her husband. George Junior Welch.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 6 at the Colonial Funeral Chapel, 2005 So. 4th Ave., with Bishop Paul Nestler conducting.
Interment will be at the Bancroft Cemetery.
