John Madison Questel, born April 28, 1928 in Getaway, Ohio died March 31 from complications after open-heart surgery.

John earned a B.S. from Kent State University and an MA from the University of Akron. He served in the 2nd Chemical Mortar Battalion during the Korean War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He began his career at Batelle Memorial Institute in Columbus. Returning to Akron, he was a research chemist at Morgan Adhesives. He later formed his own business, Adhesive Consultants and also founded Akron Coating & Adhesives. He was instrumental in the start up of numerous businesses and was one of the primary developers of the nitroglycerin transdermal patch. He was a lifetime member of the American Chemical Society and the Red Dragons, his army unit in Korea.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean; children, Lynn (Raymond) Russell, John, Cliff (Laura); grandchildren, Rose and Anna; brothers, Theodore (Helen), Louis (Joyce); sisters, Catherine (Ray) DeMattia, and Cecile Acker.

Friends are invited to Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, Ohio for visitation Friday, April 7, 2017 from 5 to 7 PM, where memorial service will be Saturday at 11 AM. Interment Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Monday, April 10 at 12:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity in John’s memory.
