NETTLETON – The Rev. Hoyle C. Smith, 77, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after several months illness. He was born April 13, 1929, in Mantachie to the late Elvis and Ruth Manuel Smith. He lived in the Fellowship community near Nettleton for many years. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, where he served as pastor for 29 years. He was a building contractor for many years and built several churches. He enjoyed woodworking, music and fishing.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with the Rev. Gary Carroll and the Rev. H.V. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Haughton Memorial Park in Amory.
Survivors include his wife, Syble Jean Adams Smith of Nettleton, whom he married in 1951; three daughters, Linda Smith Monaghan (Bill) and Debbie Smith Shields (Keith), both of Amory, and Janice Smith Benton (Joe) of Hatley; two brothers, Robert G. “Bobby” Smith of Mooreville and James Harold Smith of Marietta, Ga.; six grandchildren, Eric Monaghan (Libby), Phillip Monaghan (Sherry), Brad Benton (Shelli), Dustin Shields (Kellie), Jill Benton Barrett (Matt) and Holli Shields; five great-grandchildren, Makensie Monaghan, Connor Monaghan, Elizabeth Monaghan, Zoe Barrett and Easton Shields.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Clinton and Herbert Smith.
Pallbearers will be Brad Benton, Dustin Shields, Eric Monaghan, Phillip Monaghan, Matt Barrett and Jeff Shields.
Visitation will continue until service time today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church, 30051 Fellowship Drive, Nettleton, MS 38858.
