Juanita M. Ludwig, 77, of Gardiner, passed away on Jan. 14, 2017, with her children by her side.

Her request was to be cremated and the family will be holding a memorial in mid-July, 2017 at the Gardiner Community Church.

A memorial service to celebrate the life and cherish the memories of Juanita will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 18 at the Gardiner Community Church. A reception will immediately follow.

Juanita was born Dec. 28, 1939, in Bozeman, Montana, the daughter of Andrew and Jenny Cooper. She was raised in Harrison, until her family moved to the Gardiner area during junior high school, where her father worked for Yellowstone National Park.

She met her husband, Clifford Ludwig while attending Gardiner High School and they were happily married on April 2, 1960. They enjoyed a wonderful life of 50 years together that included lovingly raising their four children, traveling with family, jigsaw puzzles, collecting treasures, loving their pet cats, and most importantly, spending time together.

Juanita was very dedicated and active in Gardiner, especially with the Community Church, where she spent many years as an auditor and teaching and sharing her faith with the children. She also spearheaded fundraising for the youth group on their missions outside the states. She was active in a bible study group, and attended a weekly coffee club where she always tried to keep things interesting with story sharing and crafts. She also loved crafting things for her children and grandchildren.

She worked as a bookkeeper and was also quick to step in and help others with finances and taxes. Juanita also enjoyed working the elections and working seasonal for the post office. Her vast knowledge of the area was known by all and she loved sharing stories and interpreting old photos of the area. She wanted to make sure the history of the area continued down through the generations.

She will be remembered as a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.

Survivors include her children: daughter, Cynthia Brown and her husband, Roy of Tucson, Arizona; son, John Ludwig and his wife Leslie, grandchildren Aleksa and Winston all of Carlin, Nevada; daughter Mary Pernett and her husband, William, grandchildren Halle and Brandon all of Bellingham, Washington; son, Andrew Ludwig and his wife Leslie of Emmitsburg, Maryland; brother John Cooper and his wife, Elaine of Sun City West, Arizona; numerous nieces and nephews; and all of her wonderful friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Jenny Cooper, her brother, Andrew "Bud" Cooper and husband Cliff Ludwig.

If so desired, memorials may be directed to the Gardiner Ambulance Service, or charity of the donor’s choice.
